Tri-County Bonding Association
Procedures for Interviewing Defendants in the Orange County Jail
Non-Contact Interviews:
The Surety entrance in the Clerk of Court’s area at the Booking and Release Center contains a video carrel by which Bondsmen can see and talk to defendants via a monitor. If you need to do an initial interview with a defendant and do not require them to sign any paperwork at this stage, this is the method you should use to interview defendants for the purpose of posting bond.
Bondsmen wishing to interview defendants utilizing the video carrel should call 407-254-7601 and ask to speak to the on-duty Sergeant or Lieutenant to schedule an interview time. Should any problems occur with scheduling a timely interview, ask to speak to the on-duty Captain.
Face-to-Face Interviews and Signing of Paperwork:
Face-to-face interviews are to be utilized exclusively for the purpose of having a defendant sign paperwork related to the bond contract. Bondsmen needing to have defendants sign any paperwork associated with the posting of a bond, should call 407-254-7601 and ask to speak to the on-duty Sergeant or Lieutenant to schedule a time to meet with the defendant. Should any problems occur with scheduling a timely meeting, ask to speak to the on-duty Captain.
A surety office has been established on the 4th floor of the Booking and Release Center for the purpose of obtaining signed documents from defendants for the posting of a bond. Once the Bondsman has set an appointment to meet with a defendant, they should check-in at the information desk located on first floor of the Booking and Release Center and inform security you need to proceed to the 4th floor to meet with a defendant in the surety office. During regular business hours, Court Deputies will have keys to the surety office; after business hours, movement Officers will have keys to the surety office. The surety office is located across the hall from the 4th floor information desk. A Correctional Officer will accompany a defendant to the surety office from within the Booking and Release Center and will remain with the defendant during the signing of all paperwork.
Note:
If any issues should arise with this procedure, Bondsmen should obtain detailed information on the incident to include the defendant’s name, date/time of attempted interview or meeting and the Jail Officer’s name you spoke with. This information should be forwarded to the President and/or Vice President of the Association for resolution.
